The BUTTERFLY TREE provides Bed ad Breakfast and/or Temporary Accomodations by the week or month at Muir Beach, California. It is also the location of IN BETWEEN BOOKS, publisher of quality poetry and fiction, for those of you who love to read.

Directions:

From HIGHWAY 101 NORTH, exit at Mill Valley, Stinson Beach. Continue under freeway to second signal light. It is a Y. There is a Persian Rug store directly in front of you. The street sign says SHORELINE. Turn L. You are now on Highway 1 which is called Shoreline at this point.

From HIGHWAY 101 SOUTH, exit at MILL VALLEY-STINSON BEACH. It is the exit just after SEMINARY. When you exit turn R at first stop sign, L at second stop sign. Proceed to signal light with Persian Rug place directly in front of you. Turn L. to SHORELINE which is Highway One.
Stay on Hwy. 1 for 12-15 minutes. It winds up the mountain and down to the ocean. Each time the road forks TAKE THE LEFT FORK. There are no right turns to the Butterfly Tree.
When you see the Pacific Ocean, you are at Muir Beach. There is no sign. Proceed past the Pelican Inn on your left, and the row of mailboxes on your right. Take the L. Fork and begin to go uphill again. Halfway up the hill you will see a street sign which says SUNSET WY. Do NOT turn down Sunset. Parking is on the next street above Sunset which is called White Way. Turn LEFT.  It is a gravel road. Enter slowly, and carefully, watching for traffic coming downhill around the curve of the highway.  Park by the fence with the butterflies on it. If you miss White Way, the next street sign will say Seascape. You have gone too far. Turn around on Seacape and come back to White Way. Be VERY CAREFUL as you turn right to make a wide enough turn. . . otherwise you will be caught in the ditch and have to call a tow truck!

If lost, call from the Pelican Inn. If it's too late, and the Pelican is closed, drive down Pacific Way to the beach. There is a pay phone in the parking lot. The only other pay phones are 15 minutes away, and cell phones do not work at the beach, so arrive early if possible! There are no street lights here. Don't worry, be happy, you'll find us, and as William Saroyan said,

"In the time of your life, LIVE - so that in that good time there shall be no ugliness or death for yourself or for any life your life touches. Seek goodness everywhere and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding place and let it be free and unashamed. Place in matter and in flesh the least of values, for these are the things that hold death and must pass away.
"Discover in all things that which shines and is beyond corruption. Encourage virtue in whatever heart it may have been driven into secrecy and sorrow by the shame and terror of the world.
"Ignore the obvious, for it is unworthy of the clear eye and the kindly heart. Be the inferior of no man nor of any man be the superior. Remember that every man is a variation of yourself. No man's guilt is not yours, nor is any man's innocence a thing apart. Despise evil and ungodliness, but not men of ungodliness or evil.
"In the time of your life, live - so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it."
